In light of the covid lockdown and in honor of Rick Steves’ post, here are some of the things I have renewed appreciation for these days and miss a lot.
The feeling of that first step out of the airport, being surrounded by a completely foreign world and knowing an adventure is coming
Speaking phrases in a foreign language and not feeling pretentious about it
Throwing open a good casement window that doesn’t have an ugly screen on it
Riding on trains
Just wandering a new area on foot to see what we find
Pointing my camera at pretty much anything and having it feel fresh and exciting (currently doing a photo-a-day project, and it is the exact opposite for me right now)
Opening the door to your night’s accommodation for the first time
Heading out in the morning before the city fully wakes up
Old windows
The variety of hotel breakfast spreads – I’m never this fancy at home!
Since we’re talking about food, trying local dishes of any kind!
And desserts that don’t rely solely on sugar
Fresh sheets every night
Castles!!!
Figuring out what is the best local candy to stock up on to bring home to people
High-up views
Did I miss anything? What would be on your list?
