Every photographer has certain compositions they’re drawn to. Here are some of the types of pictures I seem to take over and over.
Landscapes
This is pretty obvious. Can you be a travel photographer if you don’t get at least some landscape shots?
Vignettes
It’s nice to focus in on the details sometimes. They tell a lot about local life.
Holding Something
Don’t ask me why, it just seems to happen a lot, and now I lean into that.
Windows and Doors
I have always loved architectural details. When Kevin and I look at houses, the first thing I often comment on is how cute (or not) the windows are. And when traveling, I find my lens drawn right to them again and again!
Animals
The most difficult travel subject that I consistently aim to photograph.
Plants
What shows the diversity and beauty of a location better than the plants?
Kevin Pointing
This all started because Kevin would constantly point at something for me to photograph by sticking his finger right in front of my lens without realizing. He ruined so many photos this way in the beginning before I realized I could collect them all, and then it was funny.
I even secretly started an Instagram for it. He did eventually find out about it (because I can’t fib to save my life), and now it’s become a battle between us, with me trying to encourage a point and catch him at it without him noticing.
What other kinds of travel photos do you like to take? Leave me a comment to join the conversation!
